Homework
How can you help your child succeed?
We would encourage you to support your child with reading at home at least 3 times a week for 10 minutes. This provides such a good foundation for all learning and will really help your child’s progress. Due to the current situation children’s reading books will be changed on set days twice a week. This is to ensure that all books are quarantined for the sufficient amount of time before being given to another child.
2C – Tuesday and Friday
2W – Monday and Thursday
In Year 2 we add the Big Cat scheme to the range of books which are available to the children as they progress. This scheme includes non-fiction texts and a wider range of fiction genres as well as poetry. These books are more challenging than the Oxford Reading Tree books and therefore levels do not correspond. The Big Cat books are excellent for prompting discussion and for introducing your child to new vocabulary. Should your child finish their book before the set changing day, we would encourage them to read their book again as this helps to build fluency as well as confidence. At the back of the Big Cat books there are also ideas for activities based on the book should you wish to have a go.
