Year 5 DT Project
Our Year 5 children have been studying India in our History and Geography lessons during the summer term. We have also linked this topic to other curriculum areas such as English, RE, Art and Music. In our very final week of Year 5, we have also covered our Design Technology objectives by linking them with India. The children have been learning Food Technology skills over the last 3 days in order to prepare, cook and sample some Indian-inspired savoury dishes. On Monday, the children qualified in Food Hygiene and Kitchen Safety, as well as learning about nutrition and food groups. Throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, they prepped and cooked - learning many skills such as peeling, chopping, boiling, draining, combining and seasoning. On Thursday afternoon, we had the pleasure of celebrating this project by sharing with parents the art work, research and the delicious food we created. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed tucking in to Saag Aloo (spinach and potato - grown by the children at school), Chana Masala (chickpea curry), Rainbow Rice Salad (rice, cucumber, mixed peppers and coriander), chapattis and fresh mango. It has been a really fantastic way to end Year 5 with the children demonstrating the key values of teamwork, resilience and risk-taking. Mrs Sear and Mr Smith would like to say a huge "thank you" to everybody who helped, especially Mrs Charlton, Mrs Gordon, Mrs Chiles and the lovely kitchen-pod ladies!
