PE and Sport Premium
Sport is an important part of life at Middleton Cheney Primary Academy, so much so that we've been awarded the Sainsbury Sports Gold Mark! Funding for Primary School Physical Education and Sport
The government is providing extra annual funding to improve the Physical Education (PE) and Sports programmes offered by primary schools. This is being provided jointly by various government departments including Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport. The funding is allocated directly to schools but is ‘ring fenced’- this means it can only be spent specifically on PE and sport in schools.
Although some guidelines are provided it is up to individual schools to decide how best to use this additional funding. At Middleton Cheney we decided we wanted this money to not only have a beneficial impact on the experiences of the pupils currently at our school, but also on the experiences of future pupils. We also wanted to try and ignite a lifelong enjoyment of participation in physical activity within all of our pupils. To achieve this we felt we needed to not only develop our interschool competitive opportunities but also our recreational leisure activities.
With all this in mind we set about looking at what we currently offered both within and outside of curriculum time and how we could improve and enhance this. We also looked at where the staff felt their areas of strengths lay and areas they felt additional expert advice might be beneficial. To provide this expert advice we felt strongly that we should look locally to enable us to forge links with clubs and organisations that pupils would be able to join outside of school, to continue their new found interest in a particular area of sport.
Information on how we used the sports funding in recent years is below.
