Hagbane's Doom
13th Feb 2014
Hagbane's Doom was the title of the Year 3/4 play shown to the school and to parents this week. The children were fantastic as ever in this fantasy adventure telling the story of three children transported into a world of magic, fighting the evil witch Hagbane to retrieve the stolen magical Merestone and restore life to the forest people.
The use of a glowing orb nightlight as the magical Merestone was visually interesting (just one of the excellent ideas from our lovely props planners) and different lighting effects were cleverly used by Levi and Sam, the two Year 6 students asked to run the lighting rig. There's quite a demand for their talents as they were also invited to do the lights for the Foundation Nativity after showing their skills with their own year group earlier last year.
The singing in this play was particularly impressive – the cast were confident and controlled and it sounded beautiful. There was a wonderful solo performance and I particularly enjoyed the star pool and fire dances.
This was a tale of good winning over evil so there were a few scary characters – the Grims and Grogs did very well frightening the audience members and Hagbane was genuinely sinister!
Well done to everyone involved in singing, dancing, setting the stage, making props, lighting and acting. You were all superb!
