Fun, forums, feasting... and fighting?
27th May 2017
Fun, forums, feasting and a even a little controlled fighting were the order of the day on Thursday for the Year 4 Ancient Rome immersion day. All of the children dressed up before coming in to school in an array of togas, gladiator outfits and gowns. Thank you to all the family members who helped the children to dress up so wonderfully.
Pupils spent the morning making items in groups to sell at their own market stalls before dressing and manning them in the forum. Amongst the stall holders were blacksmiths, bakers, shoe makers, weapons smiths, a pie shop, jewellers, goldsmiths and potters. Each class set up their own forum and then took turns looking around one anothers' stalls in both forums, buying and selling.
During the afternoon the children practised battle formations using the shields they had made and decorated earlier in the week, charging one anothers' lines with terrifying battle cries! They rounded off the day with food tasting and then watching a Roman Mysteries DVD set during the destruction of Pompeii by a volcanic eruption. The children were able to share lots of the knowledge they had learnt from an earlier topic on earthquakes and volcanoes.
