Bronze Sports Mark
26th Jan 2016
We're proud to announce that last year, the school applied for and achieved a Bronze Award for PE and Sports provision.
Sainsbury's School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Schools in England are able to apply for Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of the mark. The initiative is a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire millions of young people across the country to take part in more competitive school sport.
Our Bronze School Mark was awarded after assessment using a number of factors to judge the provision made for PE and Sport within the school. There are four levels of activity that are assessed: competition in schools, between schools and at a county and area level.
We received the Bronze Award largely due to the great number of sports and competitions we have been involved with across the key stages and year groups, both within school (Level 1 - Intra football, netball, cross country, athletics, gymnastics and sports day) and against other schools (Level 2 - football, netball, hockey, sports hall athletics, swimming, quad kids to name but a few).
This academic year, we intend to continue entering competitions at all age groups. Already we are starting to experience some successes, winning cluster/area events in Y3/4 football, Y5/6 football and second place in KS2 cross country (see the results page on the website for details). We will continue to develop great sports leaders who help to organise and run many events here at school and do an excellent job working with and guiding some of the younger children. In addition, it is our commitment to maintain a wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities for the children to take part in.
Middleton Cheney Primary Academy values the importance of PE and Sport. Therefore, we will not only work hard to sustain our current level of the Sainsbury’s School Award, but strive to move on to the Silver award. A successful application is a reflection of our commitment to offer our children the chance to really get involved in a variety of different sports and games in a competitive environment and to hopefully foster a love of sport that remains with them for life and opens up opportunities beyond what we offer at school.
