Upton Park
(July 2013)
Classes 5S and 5G enjoyed glorious weather during two separate trips to Upton Farm, part of the Upton House Estate.
Our days began in the teaching room with a lively introduction to the farm and how it operates by Rob the farmer and his daughter, Jess. The children enjoyed digging into buckets of grain, trying to identify the different types and having an opportunity to show their knowledge of farming and to ask questions. Next was a walk around the beautiful farmland, looking at cereal crops and livestock on the way and hearing more about how they are managed.
A short break from the walking saw the children having great fun running and rolling down the steep hills before moving on to the welcome refreshment of a cool lakeside rest with a drink and biscuit. A final short walk took us to a waiting trailer, which we were all grateful for in the soaring temperatures. It took us up the hill to our shady lunch spot where, after some more running around (by the children!), we boarded the trailer once more to return to the coach.
