A visit from the chiropractor
2nd Feb 2015
Year 3 recently enjoyed a visit from the chiropractor as part of their topic work on skeletons.
The children had carefully formulated their questions ahead of the visit from Mrs Hearle, who runs a practice in Bloxham, and they were clearly engaged in her answers, making links to their own knowledge in other subjects. Their questions covered such topics as:
‘How do you become a chiropractor?’ (University degree)
‘How long have you been one for?’ (14 years)
‘Have you treated babies or children?’ (yes)
‘Do you treat animals too?’ (yes, including Miss Webb’s horse)
‘Have you ever treated a snake?’ (No to that one!)
‘Why did you become a chiropractor?’
The answer to the final question was that Mrs Hearle received treatment herself from a chiropractor after years of carrying a small child around. This sparked her interest and she entered training.
After the Q&A session, the children got to try out her special wedge cushion (lots of fun) and her electronic vibrating massager. Every child was keen to feel this on their hand and then their back and from the ecstatic looks on their faces, it was very enjoyable!
We’ll see in a few years time if that experience was enough to peak one or more of the children’s interest into becoming a chiropractor themselves in the future.
