Final Farm Fun
17th June 2016
The Reception classes recently had their fourth and final visit to the Greatworth Farm Education Centre. This time the field to plate food they looked at was rhubarb and they found out lots more about the sheep on the farm. Rosie had recently sheared her flock and showed the children a video which had been made of her doing that. They also visited the sheep and noticed how lovely and clean they look once they've been clipped! Some of the wool was handled and used by the children to make their own sheep crafts.
The children went for a walk to the disused railway line and found out a little about the history of the line. Whilst there they investigated the 'tunnel' (not as long and dark as you might imagine from the childrens' description) and some had a chance to use branches to build a simple den. They then pretended to be trains as they walked back to the farm buildings.
During their visits the children have gained great insight into the land around them and its many uses and have gained understanding of where many of the foods they take for granted come from. They've also had a lot of fun at the same time!
