Emergency! Shock, choking, broken bones, heart attack, not breathing. Would you know what to do?
Year 6 would following their full day of hands on First Aid training with St. John Ambulance. Our young people learnt how to keep themselves safe when responding to the scene of an accident, how to assess a casualty and prioritise conditions, signs and symptoms of common medical problems as well as protocol for calling an ambulance with or without bystanders. They had great fun practicing bandaging on one another, became adept at putting one another into the recovery position and practiced life saving CPR on mannequins.
Despite conditions being extremely hot, all the young people listened extremely well and felt positive that they would be able to assist in an emergency should one arise.
