More from Everdon
28th Oct 2015
Each year in October, children from Year 4 are given the opportunity for a two night residential at the nearby Everdon Outdoor Centre, near Daventry.
This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to develop their independence and for many, it marks their first stay away from home without their families. Some are understandably nervous initially but every year the children settle in quickly and are quickly exhausted by the range of activities on offer. This year was certainly no exception.
Ask our current Year 4s what their favourite activity was and you will get a range of responses. It could be lighting their own fires with a flint striker, impaling marshmallows on a stick and toasting them over an open fire whilst counting elephants (you’ll have to ask them!), the ‘mountain climb’ (actually it’s a long walk up a hill but for little legs it can appear mountainous!), drawing, sharing hot chocolate and cookies before bedtime with their friends, hunting mini-beasts in the woods… I could go on.
The children are all encouraged and supported in trying new things – whether that be the activities, food, sharing a room or being away from family and each comes home with increased confidence and some fantastic memories, along with a bag of muddy clothes! Take a look at some of the photos here.
