The Goblin Next Door
6th April 2014
For Sale, 3 bedroomed mushroom in the quiet and highly exclusive area of Fairy Dell, where life is peaceful and friendly. That is, until a goblin squatter moves in bringing all his biker-gang style friends and ruining the idyll!
That was the setting for the recent Year 1 and 2 play. The children were amazing – full of confidence and in fine voice for the singing. There were some lovely dances too and an amazing solo.
The first performance of the play was the dress rehearsal to the rest of the school and the audience were enraptured by the story with a clear message about the importance of being kind to others and having friends. The goblin was extremely naughty and unkind and the children reacted with shocked intakes of breath when he cheated in pass the parcel and threw a cake on the floor!
By the end of the story, the goblin realised that he needed friends after all and was able to apologise and pay back everyone he had hurt. Forgiveness is shown to him and in the final song the whole cast sang, “All’s well that ends well in the Fairy Dell. Everybody loves a happy ending.” And we did!
Thank you to all the supportive family members who provided some stunning costumes making the fairies look beautiful, the animals cute and cuddly and the goblins extremely scary. Mr Hartwell described the play as “a toe tapping performance” and parents and children alike had great fun watching it. Thank you Year 1 and 2.
