We Love Reading in EYFS

Reading books is at the heart of our Foundation Stage curriculum and staff develop children’s love of reading through reading aloud and telling stories and rhymes. In the first term we read and share stories daily and explore stories and texts through play based experiences. We may act out a story we have been reading using puppets, small world toys or masks.
We promote the love of reading by setting up a library role play area and teach the children all about how a Library works. We take the children to visit the library and share information with the parents on how to become part of the library family. The children have their own reading folder with a school book and also get the chance to choose a picture book to take home to share with family members, which they can swap this weekly.
During the first Term we also offer a reading information evening to guide parents on how they can read at home with their child and how the skills of reading are taught in school.
